Partner Nº 5: Tampere University of Technology

Brief description of the organisation

Tampere University of Technology TUT (TUT Foundation) is an active scientific community of 2.000 employees and more than 10.000 students. The University operates in the form of a foundation and has a long-standing tradition of collaboration with other research institutions and business life.

The Department of Materials Science has specific research teams, who perform internationally recognised level materials research in the field of novel thermal spray technologies, laser surface treatments, thin film technologies and surface modification by other technologies.

The laboratory of surface engineering has a broad range of coating manufacturing equipment including high velocity flame spray techniques (HVOF and HVAF). The research group has also experience in developing coating processes for polymer matrix composites and various metallic materials. Also long-term experience in development of polymer coatings particularly by thermal spraying techniques is available for the project.

Novel coatings materials in the form of thermal spray powders can be manufactured by spray drying process. The laboratory is equipped with research equipment to study for example non-sticking surfaces and other surface properties.
